Can you believe it but we've been with CinnaMoms Crenshaw for the best 2 years!!!
On June 18, we hosted 120 guests to celebrate this wonderful occasion! The event focused on the overall programming of our space for families to "Rest, Nest, and Connect" while receiving essential WIC and perinatal health services.
To create this non-traditional space, we drew inspiration from the book "Rest is Resistance" by Tricia Hersey, which highlights the importance of rest and the impact of sleep deprivation as a public health issue in the United States. We hosted a "Rest is Resistance" support circle, and this powerful gathering included CinnaMoms, CinnaDads, and CinnaGrans, creating a space for deep intergenerational dialogue. Moments of transgenerational healing occurred as the CinnaMoms remembered how little rest their mothers, the CinnaGrans present, had been able to experience while raising them. We closed the circle with a moment of collective rest, led by our CinnaTeam through a guided meditation and sound bath.
Nesting moms received essential pregnancy, postpartum, and baby care items. Families connected with our fabulous community partners: IRTH App, WIN LA, Venice Family Head Start, Food Action LA, Hunger Action LA, Frontline Doulas, Black Women for Wellness, SLASB AAIMM Initiative, LA Care South Los Angeles Community Health Center, LA County DPSS, LA County Medical Doula Hub, and the St. John's CBWH (Celebrating Black Women's Health) program.
Books were in high demand, with an excellent distribution of 276 books to families from both Books For Kids and Little by Little programs.
Special thanks to our grant funders, LA Care GAAINS III Initiative, The California Abundant Birth Project, The Los Angeles Jewish Community Foundation, and Kaiser Permanente, for funding our CinnaMoms support services and events that aim to improve birthing outcomes for our Black/African American families.
