CinnaMoms Guide to Honoring Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of women throughout history. At CinnaMoms, we especially honor the legacy of Black women who have nurtured families, built communities, and advocated for healthier futures for generations.

From mothers and grandmothers to doulas, midwives, and community leaders, Black women have long been at the heart of care, culture, and connection.

Here are a few ways to celebrate Women’s History Month with your family and community:

Honor the Women Who Came Before Us

Take time to learn about women in your family or community who have shaped your story. Their strength and wisdom are part of the foundation we stand on today.

Black women have long been leaders in maternal health. Mary Eliza Mahoney became the first professionally trained Black nurse in the United States in 1879.

For generations, Black “granny midwives” delivered thousands of babies in communities where hospitals were not accessible. Long before the term doula was widely used, Black women also supported mothers through pregnancy, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery — a legacy of care that continues today through programs like CinnaMoms.

Celebrate Mothers and Caregivers

Motherhood is powerful work. Whether you are pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, or raising children, the care you give every day helps shape the next generation. Your love, guidance, and strength create the foundation for healthier families and stronger communities.

Share Knowledge and Support

Women’s health and maternal care have always been strengthened through shared knowledge and community support. Connecting with other moms, asking questions, and uplifting one another continues this legacy.

Prioritize Your Health and Well-Being

Caring for yourself is part of caring for your family. Nourishing your body, resting when you can, and seeking support are important steps toward healthier families and communities.

A Message from CinnaMoms

Women’s History Month reminds us that the work of caring, nurturing, and advocating for our families is powerful and meaningful. When women are supported, families grow stronger.

Together, we honor the legacy of women who came before us and continue building healthier futures for the next generation. 💜
