In honor of National Poetry Month, which celebrates the power of poetry all month long, alongside National Library Week (April 7-13), and “Drop everything and read day (April 12), this is the perfect time to dive into the world of books with your little one.
Reading together fosters connection, sparks imagination, and supports early literacy development.
This month, the Little by Little School Readiness Program at WIC is here to help families nurture a love of reading, one book at a time.
Here’s how you can celebrate with us:
Week 1: Discover the Magic of Reading

Kick off the month by exploring the Little by Little program and the incredible books available through WIC. These books are designed to help with early literacy and engage your child in exciting, educational adventures.
Week 2: Embrace National Library Week (April 7-13)

Celebrate National Library Week (April 7-13) by visiting your local library! Pick up free books, participate in reading events, and discover resources to support your child’s learning journey. Don't forget—WIC can help with books and tools for home, too!
Week 3: Dive into Poetry with Your Little Ones

Explore the joy of poetry during National Poetry Month! Share simple rhyming books with your child to help with language development, rhythm, and creativity. Poetry is a fun way to get children engaged with language.
Week 4: Drop Everything and Read Day (April 12)

On April 12th, join the nationwide celebration of reading by taking a break to enjoy a good book with your little one. Drop Everything and Read Day is all about making reading a priority. Remember, you can sign up for WIC to receive books and learning tools to help your child thrive!
